BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) provides provincial emergency medical care and patient transfer services. BCEHS is part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA).

What you’ll do
Regional Medical Director
The Regional Medical Director, Patient Care Delivery (RMD-PCD) reports to the Executive Medical Director, Patient Care Delivery (EMD-PCD) – BC Emergency Health Service (BCEHS), and is a member of the Patient Care Delivery team. Working in full partnership with the Regional Directors of Patient Care Delivery (RD-PCD), this position is jointly accountable for establishing, developing, and sustaining effective strategic priorities of BCEHS and the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), and provides medical leadership and oversight for program development and implementation, as related to patient care delivery at BCEHS. Using a collaborative model of work, high-level strategic and operational accountabilities include:
  • Jointly accountable with RD-PCD to develop and monitor clinical service plans for PCD, which align with the overall operations service plan
  • Work collaboratively across all operational and clinical programs at BCEHS, with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), other RMD-PCD and RD-PCD leaders, to oversee strategic and operational plans for programs within the role’s responsibility
  • Work in collaboration with the RD-PCD to deliver on BCEHS’s strategic plan with a focus on delivering outcomes in alignment with our quintuple aim: staff experience, patient experience, patient outcomes, cost-effectiveness, and health equality.
  • Provide leadership and coordination in the evaluation of the efficiency, quality, and delivery of patient care processes, including medical audits, peer and interdisciplinary reviews, chart reviews, and critical safety event reviews
  • Foster strategic, clinical, and operational relationships with local and health authority stakeholders in health care, directly related to identifying challenges and opportunities that will improve patient outcomes and experience, and achieve clinical, operational, and quality excellence in patient care delivery.

What you bring
Qualifications
Regional Medical Director
  • Current registration with BC College of Physicians and Surgeons, or eligibility for registration
  • Fellowship in a relevant Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada Specialty including, but not limited to, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Anaesthesia, Pediatrics, or Surgery (or eligibility for registration) is required
  • Candidates with clinical experience practicing in prehospital and transport medicine will be strongly favored
  • A diploma in Prehospital and Transport Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent training/credentials is highly desirable
  • A Master’s degree in Health Services Administration or equivalent experience is highly desirable
  • 3-5 years of recent, related experience in quality improvement and large complex academic or organizational settings

Job Type: Locum for 6 months
