Five Days SSB Selection Procedures

Day 0: Reporting

Candidates must report to the selection center on this day. Original documents and photocopies of the candidate’s documents will be verified. Personal Information Questionnaire (PIQ) Forms will be filled out following the verification of documents.

PIQ Forms: Candidates must fill out this form with personal information such as their educational background, family background, and so on. This form is extremely important. It serves as a foundation for questions that may be posed to an aspirant during the individual interview round. The Board’s psychologist will examine the responses.

Day 1 (Screening Test):

The first stage will be held the following day. Candidates must take a verbal and nonverbal intelligence test as well as a picture perception test. In the PP test, a slide (hazy or clear) is shown for 30 seconds and candidates must write a story about it. The group discussion round follows the completion of this test. This is commonly referred to as the Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PPDT).

The intelligence test includes both verbal and nonverbal questions. It is a written exam with multiple-choice questions. Each question has a time limit of 30 seconds to be answered.

The Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP & DT) consist of story writing and discussion. A picture will be shown to the candidates for 30 seconds, and they will have 3 minutes to write a story based on the picture.

Day 2 (Psychology Test):

A Psychologist organizes a series of written tests. These tests will assess candidates’ psychological readiness to serve as officers. Among these tests are:

Picture Story writing is a Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). This test is similar to the PPDT. This test will display approximately 11 images. Each image will be shown for 30 seconds, after which candidates must write a story based on the image in 4 minutes. After 4 minutes, another image will be displayed, and the same procedure will be repeated until the last slide is displayed. The twelfth slide will be left blank for a candidate to write any story of their choosing.

  • Word Association Test (WAT): The second psychological test in the SSB selection procedure is the Word Association Test (WAT). In this test, 60 words will be displayed consecutively for 50 seconds. Candidates must write the first thought that comes to mind when they hear those words.
  • Situation Reaction Test (SRT): Candidates will be given a booklet with 60 scenarios written on it for this test. Candidates must write responses based on those 60 scenarios.
  • Self-Description Test (SD): Candidates must write their thoughts on their parents, themselves, friends, teachers, and others in this test. The time limit will be 15 minutes.

Group Testing Officer Tasks (GTO Tasks): Day 3 & Day 4:

These tests consist of interactive indoor and outdoor activities that combine mental and physical work. The following are the results of these tests:

  • Group Discussion: In this round, a group of candidates is given a situation or topic (usually current events). They are expected to talk about the various aspects of the problem. During the group discussion, the Group Task Officer observes each candidate.
  • Group Planning Exercise (Military Planning Exercise): In this round, a group of applicants is presented with a model of real-life practical circumstances. They must create their own plan of action for the aforementioned issue.
  • Progressive Group Tasks (PGT): In this round, the group of candidates must overcome obstacles using supporting materials such as rope, planks, wood logs, and so on.
  • Half Group Tasks: This round is similar to PGT, but the number of group members is reduced by half. Candidates have more opportunities to demonstrate their abilities.
  • Individual Obstacles: In this round, candidates must attempt 10 obstacles on their own.
  • Group Obstacle Race or Snake Race: In this round, all members of the group will compete against the other groups. Candidates must use the snake-like rope to navigate various obstacles.
  • An aspirant will serve as a commander in this task. He will have to overcome some obstacles with the assistance of 2-3 subordinates.
  • Lecturette: In this round, each individual must give a 3-minute lecture on a topic of their choosing.
  • Final Group Project: It’s the same as PGT. Candidates will have another opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.

The candidate interview will take place on the same day. It entails a personal interview with an Interviewing Officer.

5th Day (Conference):

On the final day, candidates and all SSB board members gather and ask the candidates a few general questions. The conference is simply to decide whether or not to recommend you as an officer in the Indian defense forces. Candidates must appear before the entire Board of Examiners, which includes the President, Deputy President, all GTOs, all psychologists, and the Technical Officer.

Tips for SSB Interview 2024 Preparation

The preparation schedule for the SSB NDA must be well-planned and organized. Prepare for the exam according to the syllabus. Include in your study materials the best preparation books and previous year’s question papers. Only passing the written exam is not enough to pass the selection process; you must also be physically and mentally fit (SSB). Here are some preparation tips for passing the SSB Interview:

Maintain Confidence: You must maintain confidence and a positive frame of mind. You must have faith in your abilities. Make your weaknesses your strengths.

Self-awareness: Plan ahead of time. The examiner typically looks for your ability to self-analyze, your life goal and determination, and your thoughts and mentality toward your parents, friends, family, teachers, neighbors, and others. Write down everything you know about yourself and your family. It enables you to understand your positive, negative, and accomplishments.

Practice writing and analyzing: You must improve your writing abilities. You should write about everything you see.

Maintain Your Fitness: You must maintain your fitness so that you can easily qualify for all physical activities. Good health allows you to pass medical tests. You can begin with light jogging and stamina-building exercises.

Personality Development: It is not enough to be intelligent; you must also be strong, mature, and have a well-developed personality. Communicate with the people who will assist you in the leatherette round and in any task that requires public speaking.

During group discussions, keep the following points in mind:

  • Do not look at the officers while writing your story or immediately after finishing it.
  • Keep your body language consistent.
  • Allow others to speak in GD rather than argue with them.
  • Wait for the right moment to bring up your story’s main points.

5 Most Important Tips for SSB Interview 2024

If you are preparing for the SSB interview in 2024, you must understand that the assessors at the SSB will never judge you based on a fixed parameter that applies to all candidates. They are evaluated solely on the parameters, their reactions and decisions in the past as well as in the present, and their own performance. The “VAACHA” interview technique is one of the core techniques for assessing a candidate, and an interview usually lasts 45-60 minutes. Since the interview technique focuses solely on your current life, past decisions and achievements, future plans, and, of course, the required OLQs,

As a result, it is critical that you prepare for the interview in a systematic manner so that you can stick to your original plan. Any deviation in the form of unanticipated questions will make you nervous or demand unwarranted and divided attention.

Here we will go over some points that will help you understand the best ways to prepare for your SSB interview in 2024. These are the typical points that most candidates fail to keep track of, and their interview preparation usually goes haywire as they prepare in a zigzag fashion. Any exam preparation requires a detailed strategy, which must be worked on in a systematic manner.

1. Make a timeline of the events in your life

We are all aware that the interview will focus on past events and decisions in our lives, as well as future decisions based on our past experiences. To gather complete information about yourself, you must record all major events in your life as well as decisions affecting your future choices in one place. Beginning with your class 10th result, followed by stream selection, class 12th result, competitive examination results, type of college allotted, branch or stream selection, placement or no placement, job profile, further competitive exams if any, and so on, should be kept in one location because a large number of questions will arise from your previous decision. Now, take a pen and paper and write down these events so that you can discover that there is a reason behind each one of them that will answer the interviewer’s questions such as what, why, when, how, and where.

2. Make a list of your accomplishments in relevant fields.

Since you have recorded all of your life decisions and events in one place, you should assess all of your achievements in academics, sports, curriculum activities, and positions of responsibility that you have held in the past. Your recent and past achievements in your job or in competition examinations should also be highlighted. The reasoning behind writing down these accomplishments is to boost your confidence while also demonstrating your credibility in front of the interviewer. Armed forces have unique perspectives on sports, which is why academics and sports are valued so highly. Your performance in these areas demonstrates that you have been a good and sincere student, and you can be relied on based on your previous consistent results. They also want to know if you can handle multiple tasks at once, which is where your CCA activities involvement comes in because it shows that this candidate does not buckle under pressure and can handle multiple tasks at once. Similarly, your performance at work and in competitive examinations reveals your seriousness about future and current decisions, as well as your understanding of the fundamentals of your profile.

3. Raise concerns about your decisions and satisfy yourself.

As previously stated, you should be able to ask questions about any major life event or achievement, as this will assist you in realizing the true reasons that you can tell the interviewer. What, why, how, when, and where are the basic five questions that will arise from everything you say in front of the interviewer. Remember that the interviewer, no matter how friendly he appears, is there to reveal the mask you’re attempting to wear, which is why it’s best not to wear one. The answers to every decision you make must first satisfy you because if you can’t convince yourself about the reasons for your decisions, how can you convince a man you’ve just met?

4. Reflect and improve

Now that you’ve gathered all of the pertinent questions, try to find answers in a systematic manner. You won’t get the right answers the first time because you know yourself just as well as the next person knows you because we don’t emphasize knowing ourselves in the way that SSB wants us to. You will need to devote a significant amount of time and effort to write down the answers to the questions with the assistance of your friends, teachers, colleagues, and family. The collective responses of these people can assist you in determining your unknown qualities as well as your weaknesses that you do not want to admit. With time, your mind will adapt to the responses and carve out the necessary information for the interviewer to know about you, and you will begin to get the right answers. This type of improvisation will benefit you in the long run, and it stems from previous attempts or a gradual understanding of your nature and behavior.

5. Don’t hide your flaws; instead, work on them.

It is obvious that we all have weaknesses and strengths, and while many of us are aware of them, others are not. When we first write down our strengths and weaknesses, they are usually superficial and hazy, but as we dig deeper, we begin to uncover hidden meanings and patterns. After you’ve sorted through these issues, you should focus on each one individually. People frequently hide their weaknesses in the belief that they will have a negative impact on the interviewer, but they fail to recognize that every human being has weaknesses, and the important thing is whether you are attempting to turn them into your strengths or not. You don’t have to hide your flaws; instead, work on them because the interviewer wants to know what you’re doing to overcome them.
