Health Physicist Specialist

The Health Physicist Specialist supports the objectives of the Radiation Safety Office in all aspects of technical operations in maintaining radiation compliance and safety for patients, visitors, and employees.

Position Responsibilities:

Manages the day-to-day operations of the personnel monitoring program including receiving, sorting, and distributing badges, ordering and terminating badges, managing incoming and outgoing history and moonlighter data, issuing Form 5¡¦s, DPW badges, dosimetry reports to managers, termination reports, and maintaining all required records in an auditable format.
Conducts ALARA reviews and issue reports. Investigate adverse findings to include assessment of radiation protection program needs in affected areas.
Performs routine area radiation surveys and contamination monitoring in all areas where radiation sources are used and stored. Maintains accurate facility diagrams of all radiation use areas.
Manages the program to ensure lead apron safety. Responsible for the correct inspection procedures and testing frequency, inventory maintenance, and use and care inspections.
Assists the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) in auditing radiation-related records in Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Research, and Industrial use locations on a regular basis to ensure compliance during regulatory inspections.

Manages the radioactive waste program to include weekly surveys, inventory maintenance, decay-in-storage, and preparing shipments off-site as needed. Collects radioactive waste for central storage.
Maintains certifications for hazardous materials shipping and receiving.
Receives processes and delivers radioactive material packages. Maintains a database of all radioactive materials with the goal of real-time activity levels for all radionuclides.
Assists with the management of radiopharmaceutical therapy patients including room preparation and teardown, patient instruction, waste oversight, security and control, and surveys for room release. Assists in the radiation safety oversight of microsphere therapy. Assists with the radiation safety aspects of LDR brachytherapy patients.
Maintains all required training and education including DOT Hazardous Materials training, applicable radiation safety training, hazardous materials training, and hospital-required safety training.
Assists with maintaining all files within the Radiation Safety Office, answering phone calls, ensuring adequate inventory of lab supplies, scanning and photocopying, data entry, and other administrative functions to ensure smooth department functionality. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed by the RSO.

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor¡¦s degree (B.S.) in Health Physics or a closely related discipline is preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
1 or more years of full-time experience in a Health Physics role that includes medical, research, academic, or industrial applications is preferred, but recent graduates may be considered.
ABHP and/or NRRPT certification preferred.
Ability to learn new activities to enhance the skill set and to support the mission of the Radiation Safety Office.
Effective and professional written and oral communication skills are required.
Ability to work as a team member as well as independently to accomplish department objectives required.
Excellent time management, task prioritization, attention to detail, and organizational skills are required.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with fit testing policies required.
Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
Excellent computer skills required.
