DUTIES:
- Responds to discovery requests and subpoenas in coordination with the City’s Law Department
- Serves as the Office’s FOIA officer, responding to FOIA requests and coordinating weekly FOIA meetings with OIG legal staff
- Coordinates with Office personnel and external parties on the searching, collection, and production of appropriate documents in litigation involving OIG
- Prepares redactions and privilege logs for confidential and privileged material
- Reviews and interprets various documents (e.g., legal documents, requests for information, contractual requirements, legislation) for department management
- Provides training and orientation to officewide staff on the optimal use of digital discovery, legal document review tools, FOIA best practices and records retention under the Illinois Local Record Act
- Under the direction of senior management, researches and analyzes local, state, federal laws, ordinances, and court decisions relative to legal issues affecting Office investigations, audits, and program reviews
- Evaluates programmatic compliance with local, state, and federal laws (e.g., FOIA, HIPAA, and EEO laws)
- Drafts other legal memoranda as directed
- Participates in meetings with senior-level attorneys and other parties to discuss cases and negotiation strategies
- Conducts a regular review of campaign finance violations and refers for investigation, as appropriate
- Assists in the development of departmental policies, procedures, and programs
- Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate degree and admission to the Illinois Bar (or another state bar having reciprocity with Illinois).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate Staff Attorney
Work experience with discovery, document review, and the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Work experience overseeing discovery in a large law firm setting, or experience in an investigatory or law enforcement organization.
ANNUAL SALARY: Up to $64,896
TRAVEL AND SCHEDULE: Travel outside Chicago is not required. Standard work hours are 8:30 am-4:30 pm, flexibility permitted.
