Full Job Description Vice President of Venue Operations
Summary/Objective
The Vice President, Venue Operations is a key member of the Executive Team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This role drives efficiency and effectiveness throughout venue management operations to evolve the functionality and sustainable growth of the organization. This position will be responsible for long-range planning for venue maintenance, evolution, and stewardship, including major capital projects. They will provide oversight for centralized Front of House management, Volunteer Management services, and Venue Management at Symphony Hall and Tanglewood, including security, parking, maintenance, and office services.
Job Description Vice President of Venue Operations
Venue Management
- Oversee budgeting for all performance, education, and workplace venues and make informed recommendations for short-term and long-term capital and operational planning.
- Oversee daily and seasonal operations across all performance, education, and workplace venues to ensure all standards for safety, security, and experience meet the organization’s strategic plans and audience/user expectations.
- Manage and staff the Building and Grounds Board committees for Tanglewood and Symphony Hall.
- Represent the BSO with government entities and external constituents in moving forward major projects as well as day-to-day operations and relationships.
- Oversee coordination of security, housekeeping, parking, landscape, and janitorial across all performance venues.
- Advise consultants, vendors (furniture, cleaning, etc.), and maintenance personnel on ongoing logistical requirements for all performance venue and workplace locations.
Front-of-house and Volunteer
- Oversee coordination of front-of-house staff across all performance venues to ensure needs for staffing and execution of operations are met and the value of customer service is upheld..
- Supervise the management of BSO volunteers across venues to ensure operational needs are being met and volunteers are supported and valued.
Office Services
- Manage the daily business operations for internal workplace sites including the maintenance of office functions (workspaces, mailroom, etc.)
- Oversee sourcing, supply, and maintenance of workplace equipment and office supplies per established protocol and requirements.
- Guides the implementation and utilization of the new venue management system.

Executive Leadership
- Champion the organizational guiding principles, holding oneself and one’s colleagues on the Executive team accountable to building a best-in-class organization.
- Participate as a member of the Executive Team in shaping the short, mid, and long term, strategic goals and opportunities for the organization.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Team, exhibiting trust and transparency through regular updates and reports on areas of accountability and functional oversight.
- Sponsor and drive organization-wide strategic initiatives as determined by the CEO and Executive Council.
- Serve as a passionate and informed advocate of the organization that clearly communicates the organization’s work and mission through internal and external networks.
- Contribute to and hold oneself and one’s colleagues accountable to the equitable access of information across the organization.
Required Education and Experience
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with extensive practical knowledge and experience in facilities management with complex operating, events, and capital project requirements.
- Experience in managing operations with disciplined budget oversight and accountability.
- Ability to solve problems efficiently and effectively under pressure.
- Experience working with external constituencies including public officials, authorities having jurisdiction, emergency service providers, project professionals, and others, a plus.
- Ability to collaborate and direct multiple projects and priorities required.
- Strong written and oral communication and delegation skills.
- Proven high-level interpersonal and management experience with the ability to communicate and partner effectively with diverse groups of external and internal constituencies including board, volunteers, staff, and musicians.
- Passion for the organization’s mission, understanding of special needs of a nonprofit institution, and a commitment to carrying out the strategic vision.
